Feb-March 2017 - Few sketches

Postby RajeshS » Mon Mar 20, 2017 3:45 pm

Hi - I have been woefully inconsistent in my upload activity. Sincere apologies.

I enjoy looking at and learning from - the so many sketches uploaded here and the comments that flow around them - that it makes me often feel guilty :(

Here's a few I did over couple of months. I have a few more and will post them sometime

I have had a hard time learning to draw "feet" and of course my lifetime nemesis of drawing things "straight" - like architectures and cars. I have tried to do a few of those here as you can see.

For members that joined recently - I almost always use the Handbook Journal 5.5x3.5 inches. A Pilot Namiki and in some cases Lamy pen. And the watercolors are a small compact field box - branded Winsor Newton - but I think they have Cotman colors - so they are of course not the best.

My brush is almost always a midium sized (size 6 maybe?) Koi water brush

You know what I really like, Rajesh? The attitude of you sketch portraits, like S3 "in the midday heat". I can hear the clothes rustle.

I think Andre hit the nail on the head. Your work is very loose, expressive and believable. You seem to have a knack for getting that energy of life into your work.

Beautiful as always, Rajesh. You just keep getting better! The feet look fine to me. The stances of the people are so evocative!
The paint handling is also nice - you seem to be getting into more subtle color relationships, even with the dread Cotmans. Actually the Cotmans aren't bad - I used the standard issue set that comes with the field box for a long time - but finally substituted pro grade from tubes squeezed into half pans and never looked back. Cadmiums especially are much richer.
