Agree with Andre... gorgeous reflections...

A few of the dozens of on-Location studies from the last few months.
These are on paper or in sketchbooks.
Trying to rapidly sketch/paint my impression of the locations light and atmosphere.
Watercolor, Gouache or acrylic.

Nice work, Rob! Sensitive atmospheric perspective. I keep coming back to Frozen Lake with its subtle snow colors and impressionistic underbrush in the middle ground.

Super sketches, Rob. Something we can all "borrow" from you struck me: the projection the color of whatever casts the shadow into the shadow, seen strongly in the last summery light study. It raises the question, "What's the difference between a shadow and a reflection?" It's a rhetorical question, with as many answers as there are artists, but one each artist must eventually answer, as you've already done. Can't work on light, which is what painters do, without considering reflections and shadows.

Absolutely amazing. These convey far more feeling than a photograph ever could.

Thanks Matthew, Andre and Russ. I appreciate your feedback.
Andre I have been trying to see and render my impression of reflected color in shadows and light. I'm glad you observed the subtle nuance in these.
