Andre is the host and coach here Scott..!! :lol: :lol: ( not to mention that he knows where Iditarod is located :wink:).
Pentel water brushes are excellent and I have stick with them and use them all the time. I had my doubts in the beginning but they are extremely convenient. And to tell you the truth there isn't something that you can't paint with a water- brush, excepting large backgrounds. For everything else, are great and less messy than regular brushes.

Every time I see it, I'm amazed anew by the confident freedom of your line, Scott, and your bright color vision.

One of the things I like about the format of this forum is going back and seeing the drawing through some commenter's eyes. That band is a really good tense arch, from the fellow leaning back on the left...

New Zealand Sketching

Appreciate it Andre, GS, Alitogata & Jeroen. You made me go back and look at the band again. Bands are always fun to draw.

This round
* The Famous Spiegeltent (mirror tent), one of few remaining in the world, they were the mobile dancehalls of the 20's and 30's. Marlene Dietrich performed in this one. Various risque burlesque pictures were painted across the frontage. It is here again for the Taranaki Arts Festival, seats 300+ in its Tardis-like interior.
* Pridham Hall, the Harry Potterish Edwardian style, a mix of Elizabethan and Jacobean influences. Our son happily served his time there at the NP Boys' High School
* St Andrews
* Kina, an excellent gallery in town
* Pukekura Tea Kiosk
* Mini me, 2002 BMW mini
* Canoe prowhead in North Taranaki style - Te Atiawa tribe - 1800's
* Ngamoutu Mission Church
* Complicated mast on Windy Point - I had second thoughts once I'd started

Excellent as always! Your sketches alway make me want to go to New Zealand.
I like the complicated mast - I'm glad you stuck it out. It looks like a Dalek waiting for the revelers to emerge from the Tardis tent.

New Zealand Sketching

Postby TaranakiSketcher » Tue Aug 18, 2015 6:58 am

Thanks Matthew (I work for the NZ Tourist Bureau ... well actually no :-) That is high praise, from the King of Life Drawing. I'd give my right arm to figure draw that well. (Like the old saying, "I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous" )

The mast people had kept adding to it making it very complex. Dalek indeed! I almost felt the same about the Speigeltent as the mast, I'd bitten off more than I could chew - but I decided to soldier on.

Isn't sketching and drawing fun. The Singapore Symposium was very enjoyable, so many styles, mediums, and people with similar interests. I'd encourage others to go to one.

New Zealand Sketching

Postby TaranakiSketcher » Thu Sep 24, 2015 7:16 am

This round
* Fishers of men windows - St Andrews (we've been asked to support their Fringe festival participation with overhead projected sketches)
* St Andrews west doors
* Spotter at St Andrew's entrance - spying recalcitrant cell-phone speaking drivers.
* This inflatable air concept began in 1992 in Nottingham.with 'EGGOPOLIS" - like a series of coloured eggs, and expanded to EXXOPOLIS in 2012 when 'Architects of Air' began the first luminarium. The cuppola on the right was inspired by the Chapter House of Southwell Minster featuring perpendicular windows with a stain glassed effect.
