Rainy spring

Postby mpainter » Tue Jun 16, 2015 3:44 pm

Our weather pattern has been very rainy as of late.
A group of us went out to a park to sketch/paint.
The atmosphere was full of moisture giving us some really nice views.

Quick value study in marker

Here is the quick value study I did in marker before starting in on the field painting.

I am speechless- that is so amazing. You are really on a good roll these days! The layers of atmosphere, the reflections and water surface, brilliant highlights at the shore line, and most of all the very convincing living presence of the tree. It has that "looking back at you" feeling that trees can have if you take the time to look at them.

How marvelous! The misty painting above was great and your marker "study" is deserving of study on its own! Thanks for sharing!

You're experiencing an annus mirabilis, Rob; this is another really good painting. The mist gives mystery to the landscape. Thank you for sharing the process as well in the value study.

Beautiful reflections and misty landscape, Rob.
Love the water surface--the light as well as reflections.
Also liked seeing the value study.

A few new Casein on location ones.

Postby mpainter » Wed Aug 12, 2015 4:41 am

I have been experimenting with my casein paint on location.
Using a limited palette of 4 or 5 colors.
These are small 8x10.

Beautiful! You have great control of the casein. What support are you painting on?

Rock'n'roll, I gave you the best years of my life,
all the sunny Sunday afternoons,
all the moonlit summer nights.
-- Kevin Johnson

I adore that painting from the picnic table. It is inspired, and inspiring. Thanks, Rob.

I love your colour palette and the way you depict foliages Rob. The second painting is my favourite, ( because I like the colour of the reddish tree).

Another visit to the Huron river this weekend. We had just enough time to do a study or two and than it rained. The morning started out with temps in the 40’s F. Really chilly.
Here's a value sketch with markers. An in process photo. And finally the finished study.

You've developed impressive skill with the reflections on the water.
